Depression glass is an inexpensive (or used as premium) pressed pattern glass produced from the late 1920's up to the end of World Warr II. Most common colour are pink and green but is was produced in numerous colors including clear, blue, red, amber, yellow, amethyst, etc...
Depression glass is still, in most cases, very affordable compare to other antiques. Beware as there is some reproduction. It's not easy to get a general rule to detect it, some reproduction are very hard to distinguish. Generally if the color is odd or pattern is faded, it should raise a red flag.
There is lot of good book on the subject. We recommanded, Collector's Encyclopedia on Depression Glass by Gene Florence and Mauzy's Depression Glass.
